A programmer is an individual who programs games, websites or programs with one or more programming languages. A programming language is a set of rules, known as a syntax, that a computer compiles or interprets to perform a series of instructions in order to run a program.

A web page is a document transported through the Internet, usually via the HTTP protocol. By standards, almost all webpages are written in HTML or XHTML (Types of mark-up languages). A mark-up language, very loosing considered a programming language, is a set of syntactical rules that are interpreted by a program. Scripting languages such as JavaScript, PHP and ASP severely enhance websites functionality, however they can't be used in this way without HTML or another mark-up language.

A computer game is a type of program that allows one or more players to play with it. There are many, many programming languages that can program games, and through some 'stretching' almost any language can. Game Maker is great for casual game making, however for serious game development, a more powerful language such as C or C++ should be used. Website based games can be made with PHP, ASP, Java or even Flash.
